Bass Bonanza

Posted: Mon, 08/11/2008 - 18:19

Over the next few days I'll flesh this out...
Basically I'm going to collate a bunch of info sitting in my bookmarks folder in a bid to make a decent guide to bass...  it'll draw on acoustic bass theory, bass phasing, wobbbles etc., compression, fitting kicks in comfortably etc. etc. etc.
I want it to have an open-source vibe, and this first post will be a constantly evolving, so if you have any tips, techniques, links or hints, chuck 'em in and I'll fit them into here where necessary...

?are we able to make posts into "stickies"?

808 kick : you don't have a TR-808? Grab that pack!

An easy option to get a powerful subbass is to take a 808 kick sample, put it in your favorite sampler and loop a single cycle of the waverform somewhere in the middle of the sample. The 808 kick is made of a sine and some additional white noise. The sine gives your sub that rattling low end pressure, and the noise adds overtones/grittiness = instant badass subbass!

Cracking idea, I always use the production bible in dubstep forum, be nice if there was a guide not geared towards a genre but production in general, I cant stick to a style to save my life.
